Here's how much tech companies pay to protect their CEOs from security threats

It's a CEO's job to run the company, but it often falls to the company to keep them safe in turn.

Companies like Amazon and Facebook shell out big bucks to keep their top executives safe at home and at work.

Business Insider combed through US Securities and Exchange Commission filings to find what it costs to protect some of the most powerful CEOs in tech. Because this information is found on proxy statements that companies issue at different times throughout the year, some totals reflect security costs for either 2014 or 2015, depending on when they most recently filed.

Here's what companies are paying in order to protect their top brass:

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer: $26,891

This amount covered Mayer's security at business events and for business travel in 2014.

Intel executives: $51,600

Intel provided security to its former president and its current CEO in 2015.

The $39,600 for CEO Brian Krzanich topped the $12,000 paid to Renée James, the company's former president.

Twitter CEOs Jack Dorsey and Dick Costolo: $111,930

Because of a mid-year CEO switch in 2015, Twitter split its security costs among two CEOs. Former CEO Dick Costolo cost the company $43,424 to protect in 2015. Jack Dorsey's security details cost $68,506.

In 2014, Twitter also paid for security for some of its other executives. Anthony Noto, Alex Roetter, and Kevin Weil were protected for $22,560, $25,897, and $14,497, respectively, for 2014.
